Moderne Galerie Saarbrücken, Once More With Feeling

Once More With Feeling - The Collectiontagger is a project that combines digitalisation and participation in the museum. In the web-based game, visitors tag their feelings, thoughts and impressions about a work of art and take an emotional approach to the collection. They generate anonymised information that contributes to the redesign of the permanent collection.

So that museums can align their collections with the wishes of visitors.

In the app, users select a work of art that spontaneously appeals to them from the general selection. On the details page, they enter three terms, so-called "tags", in a mask that correspond to their spontaneous feelings and impressions.

Once they have entered their words, users can see not only their own entries, but also those of other players. The collections of words are organised according to the date they were entered and appear smaller or larger depending on their number of entries. Information on artists and works of art is only displayed at the end.

The game contributes to a more intensive engagement with the artworks in a collection. During the game, participants stay in front of a picture for longer. They become more engaged as information is only displayed once tags have been entered.

In winter 2022, arcs audio and the Moderne Galerie invited visitors to test the prototype of the game and add further images to the collection. The participants in three workshops played in the museum and selected works of art that were integrated into the prototype.

In the museum lobby, visitors can see which tags are currently being entered live on a screen. Similar words have been assigned to certain images, allowing the museum to create new thematic connections in the collection.
